Support HB 1048. 10,000 PCs per week are disposed of by the Federal Government

Support HB 1048. 10,000 PCs per week are disposed of by the Federal Government

{nl} Tomorrow I am off to the capital to lobby Congress on the Child PACT Act, HR 1048.  The numbers of computers the federal government retires is astounding! 10,000 units a WEEK. Think what that flow of materials could do for our community schools and individuals who do not have access to technology.  Think about the amount of electronic waste that could be captured by nonprofits like ours.Go here, and enter the bill number to read the text: HB 1048The purpose of the legislation is to encourage the Federal Government:“To establish a program to transfer surplus computers of Federal agencies to schools, nonprofit community-based educational organizations, and families of members of the Armed Forces who are deployed, and for other purposes.”During the Last Congress (109th) there were 23 co-sponsors of this bill.  Twenty-two of those Co-sponsors were reelected.  Hopefully these 22 will sign on again to co-sponsor the bill.  So if we are successful we could end up with 40 to 50 co-sponsors of this bill in the next few months.  If you would like to support our efforts to capture this valuable resource, please contact your legislators and ask them to support the bill.  If each one of you send a letter or email, we would generate hundreds of contacts regarding this bill. How cool would that be?To find your legislators go here:http://www.leg.state.or.us/findlegsltr/Go ahead! Speak your mind and be heard! I would be ever so grateful to have your voices join mine.lorraineFEDERAL E-WASTE FAQs:   1. U.S. schools currently need 9 million additional PCs.
